A Rhodes Trip Exploring Local Culture & Traditions

Discover the hidden side of Rhodes! Experience the rich local life of this enigmatic Greek island on our exclusive Rhodes Culture & Traditions tour.

The rich ancient history of Rhodes has left an inescapable impression on the culture and tradition of the islanders who live here today. Our exclusive half-day tour will introduce you to the hidden side of the island. You’ll learn about the culture, traditions, and everyday life of the islanders, focusing on a traditional way of life that has survived throughout the centuries.

This Rhodes tour begins with a visit to the picturesque village of Koskinou, 8km south of Rhodes Town. Famous for its narrow, winding streets and vibrant, colourful houses, it’s also home to the Koskinou Traditional House. Here, you’ll travel back in time 120 years, as your guide explains the customs and traditions of the islanders using the fascinating items that decorate the building. This is a genuine time capsule of local life in Rhodes at the turn of the 20 Century.

Next on this local Rhodes trip, you’ll learn about the religious life of the island. Religion is an important aspect of Greek culture, and the Greek Orthodox Church is filled with symbolism and ritual. You’ll visit a traditional village church where your guide will explain the significance of religion for the islanders, describe how religion and daily life are closely entwined, and demystify the symbolism and ritual of Greek Orthodoxy. (If you’d like a glimpse at  Rhodes’ Jewish heritage, check out our Jewish Quarter & Rhodes Medieval Town Tour.)

Finally, you’ll learn about the arts and crafts of Rhodes with a visit to a traditional pottery workshop. Here, the master potter will give a pottery demonstration and explain the classic motifs that adorn Greek ceramics. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of why Greek pottery is famed around the world.

This exclusive Rhodes Culture and Traditions tour is private and can cater for between 1 and 9 people. Read more details about this Rhodes trip below and please get in touch if you have any questions. You can contact us whenever you like as we have a 24/7 customer support service to look after our guests. Wonderful walking tour of Old Town Jewish Quarter and My husband and I signed up for a tour of the Old Town Jewish Quarter including the synagogue and attached museum. Our guide, Mariana, was fantastic!! She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish community of Rhodes and showed us things we would never have found on our own. Mariana is a mature, thoughtful person who was very easy to spend time with. In addition, she generously took us to see the Christian quarter which allowed us to learn even more about this beautifully preserved area of Rhodes. We thoroughly enjoyed our Viator tour with Mariana and would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about Old Town Jewish Quarter history.

A learning experience We were gifted the wine tasting by my daughter at Christmas. Although we do drink wine we shop in Aldi, and get the same every week. So we didn’t know what to expect from a wine tasting evening. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We were fascinated by some of the methods of wine making. Especially the wine that is matured under the sea. We learned about the history of Greek wine making and how much of the technique had been lost, but is slowly being regained. My wife explained that she only drank wine with Lemonade. Our host was shocked and said they didn’t have any Lemonade on Rhodes island😀. We were surprised on how much the flavour of the wine and food changed between the different types of wine. All together a wonderful experience we thoroughly enjoyed. We would recommend this for beginners and experienced wine goers.

A good tour guide of Rhodes and It's Jewish Community She is a wonderful tour guide. She informed us about many aspects of Rhodes which I found very interesting. I wanted to know as much as possible about the old city since my grandparents were born and lived there until moving to the US in the early 1920s. Our tour was made more cumbersome since grandchildren would have rather been at the pool at our hotel. Our guide was very patient. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Amazing We spent 15 days on vacation and by far this company planned the absolute best private tour. Out of season we wanted to have a wine tasting experience and they made it happen. We had a private tasting in the city in a most beautiful private villa. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and super friendly. We recommend this company. Attention to detail was excellent. I am 100% sure all their tours are excellent.

Rhodes - The Jewish Aspect We were a small group of four on this private tour with Nikos. He's a terrific guide and an archeologist as well. Nikos is very knowledgeable about the history of Rhodes and its Jewish community. We learned about the impact of the Shoah on the community and visited the synagogue and saw where the community had lived. We also visited the Grand Master's Palace which is an eclectic rebuilt palace with amazing artifacts brought there from neighboring islands. I highly recommend this tour and Nikos.
