Rhodes Old Town Walking Tour — with the Jewish Quarter

Discover the secrets of the Medieval City of Rhodes! Explore the Jewish and medieval heritage of Rhodes in our exclusive Medieval Rhodes & the Jewish Quarter tour.

The Medieval City of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known throughout the world. Less well known, however, is the Jewish Quarter that once flourished within its walls. Our exclusive half-day tour, introduces you to the fascinating Jewish heritage of Rhodes Old Town, before taking you back in time to Rhodes’ medieval history.

Medieval Rhodes & the Jewish Quarter starts with a stroll through La Juderia, the Jewish Quarter. As you wander along the narrow, winding lanes, our knowledgeable guide will tell you the history of La Juderia and the Jewish people who made Rhodes their home.

Along the way, you’ll visit notable Jewish landmarks, including Alhadeff Park and Alhadeff Street, named after a prominent Jewish family, the Square of the Martyred Jews and its seahorse fountain, and the Holocaust Memorial. You’ll also visit the Kahal Kadosh Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in Greece, and the Jewish Museum of Rhodes.

Next, we’ll take a journey back in time to the medieval period. Your local tour guide will describe how the battles and sieges fought by the Knights of St. John shaped the town we see today. You’ll see medieval monuments and walk along the famous Street of the Knights, the best-preserved medieval street in Europe.

Our tour concludes at the 14th century Palace of the Grand Master, once home to the leader of the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. Today, it’s a museum housing medieval furniture, elaborate mosaics, and archaeological exhibits from Rhodes.

This exclusive Rhodes Old Town Walking Tour is for 1 to 9 people, on a private or semi-private basis. Alternatively, you may prefer to combine this with wine tasting on our Medieval Rhodes Walking and Wine Tour. There are more details below, but if you have any questions for us, please get in touch. Tour not as expected I booked this tour because it specifically says it is a tour of the old Jewish quarter. The only Jewish things we saw were the synagogue and museum(which we arrived at just before they were closing) and the WW2 monument. The rest of the tour was of the Grand Master Palace and an extensive history of the knights. While interesting, this tour was booked solely because the title implied a tour of the ancient juderia. Maybe I misinterpreted the description, but nonetheless we were disappointed. We scheduled the tour for the mid afternoon and our guide seemed very rushed. At the end she hurried us to the synagogue to get us in before they closed and we certainly did not have ample time to explore all its artifacts and displays. All this being said, Ancient Rhodes is a great destination and I highly recommend visiting, just maybe not booking this tour.

Well worth it! We booked a 1 1/2-hr tour of Rhodes’ Jewish Quarter through Viator. Our guide Mary was on time, personable, and very knowledgeable. Beyond conveying the facts of Rhodes’ Jewish history, Mary was able to effectively place that within the broader context of Greek history. We had a great experience. We’d recommend her and the tour to anyone with an interest in Jewish history.

Excellent tour, Excellent guide Excellent tour , Anna was our guide, she was such a lovely person, very knowledgeable and she loves Rhodes, we learned such a lot from her. She tailored the tour to our needs, as one of our family has mobility problems. We ended up at the wine tasting in the old town at Romeos, which was so good, Micheal had great knowledge of the wines we were served, all very good, we had tapas with each wine. We totally recommend this tour, it was excellent and worth every penny, a fabulous way to spend an afternoon in the wonderful old town of Rhodes.

Wonderful walking tour of Old Town Jewish Quarter and My husband and I signed up for a tour of the Old Town Jewish Quarter including the synagogue and attached museum. Our guide, Mariana, was fantastic!! She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish community of Rhodes and showed us things we would never have found on our own. Mariana is a mature, thoughtful person who was very easy to spend time with.In addition, she generously took us to see the Christian quarter which allowed us to learn even more about this beautifully preserved area of Rhodes. We thoroughly enjoyed our Viator tour with Mariana and would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about Old Town Jewish Quarter history.

A learning experience We were gifted the wine tasting by my daughter at Christmas. Although we do drink wine we shop in Aldi, and get the same every week. So we didn’t know what to expect from a wine tasting evening. However, we were pleasantly surprised. We were fascinated by some of the methods of wine making. Especially the wine that is matured under the sea. We learned about the history of Greek wine making and how much of the technique had been lost, but is slowly being regained. My wife explained that she only drank wine with Lemonade. Our host was shocked and said they didn’t have any Lemonade on Rhodes island😀.We were surprised on how much the flavour of the wine and food changed between the different types of wine. All together a wonderful experience we thoroughly enjoyed. We would recommend this for beginners and experienced wine goers.
